Will the second court order saving DACA also give Mayra the opportunity for Advance Parole approval?

By CMSC ~ February 16, 2018

On February 13th, just one month after DACA recipient Mayra Garibo's father passed away in Mexico, and one week after her second attempt to request Advance Parole was denied; a federal judge blocked Trump's termination of DACA. Although the new court order does not mention the reactivation of Advance Parole, which was arbitrarily suspended by USCIS, Mayra Garibo and the CMSC continues her fight to return to Mexico to care for her ill grandparents. She has again filed her application through attorney Naomi Cruz and with the advocacy of Reps. Alan Lowenthal and Nannette Barragan, we are hopeful that the third time requesting Advance Parole will be successful.

On September 5th, 2017, when the Trump administration announced its termination of DACA and Advance Parole for DACA recipients, the world was turned upside-down for Mayra. The Winter 2017 California-Mexico Dreamer Study Abroad Program was canceled due to Advance Parole being denied to Mayra and 75 other students.

Last month, Mayra's father died in Mexico, and Mayra was left with no other choice but to watch her father's funeral through livestream on her cell phone. Now, Mayra's grandfather has cancer, and she is attempting one more time, along with the assistance of the California-Mexico Studies Center to request consideration for Advance Parole.
