(Bloomberg) - Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said he will most likely meet with his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump soon to promote his new trade deal, as well as thanking him for sending respirators to Mexico.

López Obrador said Wednesday that the date of the visit was still uncertain as he would also like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to join in launching the North American trade agreement known as T-MEC.

"We care very much that we can participate in the initiation of this historic and very timely agreement because it will help us in the recovery of our economy and the creation of jobs," said López Obrador during his daily press conference.

This would be López Obrador's first trip abroad since he took office in December 2018. He said he will report the exact date of the trip to the United States in the coming days, possibly today or tomorrow.
