The California-Mexico Dreamers Study Abroad Program's Legacy

On Friday, March 27, 2015 the California-Mexico Studies Center (CMSC) held the 1st International Seminar on Dreamers and U.S. Citizen Minors Exiled in Mexicoin Mexico City at the National Museum of Cultures.  In attendance were 14 CSULB Dreamers that formed the first group of the emerging California-Mexico Dreamers Study Abroad Program, pioneering the use of DACA’s Advance Parole travel permits to study abroad. Since then, five other classes followed that benefitted a total of 160 participants during the last four years. Many of our past participants have gone on to finish college, receive graduate degrees, and adjust their legal status. We celebrate them with this series of photos.

Notwithstanding the cancellation of Advance Parole by the USCIS, the California-Mexico Studies Center continues to advocate for DACA recipients' right to travel with Advance Parole for humanitarian cases, because no one should be prevented from being with their loved ones during times of severe illness or sudden death, as many immigrants have to face. If you or a family member is facing this situation, please contact the CMSC for assistance at: californiamexicocenter@gmail.com
