The Mexican government launched the Remittances Paisanos card that will allow the families of countrymen to receive money from remittances through the telegraph service with zero fees to pay when receiving them.

"For the benefit of families, we developed the Telecomm card with Broxel (a leading Mexican company in transactional technology), so that in that way they can receive their money; and those who like to receive cash will also have that option," said the general director of Telecommunications of Mexico, Rocío Mejía Flores.

It is part of an agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Telecommunications of Mexico (Telecomm-Telégrafos).

Telecomm's Paisano Remittances card is a debit card that will make sending and receiving remittances from the United States to Mexico more agile, transparent and safer.

The announcement was made in Mexico City by Mejía Flores and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard after the signing of the agreement.

"We have agreements with Unlink, Dolex, Western Union, Money Gram and Remitly to make it easier for them to send safely and quickly; and we have more than 100 years of experience in the field of receiving international remittances," said Mejía Flores.

And he specified that Mexico is the main recipient of remittances from Latin America, and the second country in the world after India.

Last year, Mexicans sent $51.1 billion to Mexico, of which $2.35 billion was sent through Telecomm.

"The goal is to double them so that families receive greater advantages."

He explained that through the telegraph service (Telecomm), the family will receive their money without paying commissions, and it will be delivered immediately to those who withdraw it in Mexico.

"We are the only ones who make it possible to ship up to $7,400 in a single exhibition."

And he noted that the beneficiary is informed of the amount to be charged in pesos; and the exchange rate applied by the remittance company.

Secretary Ebrard welcomed the effort that the entire Telecomm team has made so that this remittance card can be a reality for nationals.

He explained that another advantage of this strategy is that families in Mexico will not have to wait for their money, but can have it in their hands on the same day.

"They will also have a recognized card in many establishments, so it can be used for the purchases that each family needs. This could not be done before, now it will be possible, it is a great job that facilitates and protects our people," he said.

He added that the Telecomm card is a reliable means to receive your money and make purchases in stores and online anywhere in the world; and they will even be able to withdraw cash at ATMs.

Currently, the states where Telecomm has the highest collection of remittances are: Oaxaca, Jalisco, Michoacán, San Luis Potosí, Guerrero and Querétaro.

It has more than 1,700 branches throughout the national territory in 1,210 municipalities, of which 170 do not have any banking services, which allows people to shorten their transfer time to other areas to receive their economic resource.

Its extensive coverage has been recognized by the Federal Consumer Attorney's Office (Profeco) in its monthly report.
