Jorge was born on August 20, 1960 in Cuernavaca, Morelos where he spent his childhood, established the CETLALIC Institue, and made a family. At an early age, Jorge began to study Spanish instruction and ethnohistory of Mexico with the goal of becoming a Spanish and culture teacher.
In the 80’s Jorge began his lifelong career in social movements and activism through Archbishop Sergio Mendez Arceo and liberation theology. This led Jorge to Central America where he understood firsthand, the reality of the civil war. This experience would inspire Jorge to commit his life to social justice and Latin American solidarity.
Thirty-five -plus years later, Jorge had traveled the world teaching and exchanged in cultural exchange. Jorge and the CETLALIC Institute collaborated with the CMSC for the last 20 years in heritage seeking, study abroad programs to Cuernavaca, Mexico. Jorge taught thousand of students and shared his knowledge of Latin American social movements.
Jorge saw the world through the eyes of his students and he left an impact on many, influencing the identity of many Chicano and DACA students. Jorge's work lives on in all of us.
