President Andrés Manuel López Obrador commented this Friday that the remittances sent by Mexican migrants to the country are greater than what his administration allocates to the poor.

"Remittances win over us. Never has Mexico allocated so much money to attend to the poor than we have, and in any case, the amount of remittances is more than what we destined to attend to the poor, " he said in his daily morning press conference.

In total, he added, the federal government directly grants about 600 billion pesos for support, scholarships and pensions, but remittances are higher... Read Full Article

El presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador comentó este viernes que las remesas enviadas por los migrantes mexicanos al país son mayores a lo que su administración destina a los pobres.

Why U.S. Latinos are today’s 8th Largest Economy in the World?

No alt text provided for this image

The 2020 U.S. Latino GDP Report by the Latino Donor Collaborative (LDC), is a groundbreaking publication intended to reshape the perception of Latinos as part of the U.S. economy, in comparison to the world’s economic markets.

“The report shows that, during 2018, the nearly 60 million Latinos living in the U.S. generated the world’s eighth largest gross domestic product (GDP),” said Matthew Fienup, Executive Director of the Center for Economic Research and Forecasting at California Lutheran University, one of the report’s co-authors. “The GDP is the total value of all goods and services produced by a region in a given year.”

At an estimated $2.6 trillion, the U.S. Latino GDP would be larger than the GDP’s of Italy, Brazil, or South Korea, and just slightly behind India’s GDP. The GDP growth rate summarizes the performance of an economy. By that measure, the U.S. Latino GDP has the third-fastest growth rate of the world’s top ten GDPs, faster than the overall U.S. GDP. From 2010 to 2018, only China and India had faster GDP growth rates.

The report notes that just as aging Baby Boomers are leaving the U.S. work force, young Latinos are stepping up to fill those vacancies. These young Latino workers are also becoming highly educated. The number of Latinos with a bachelor’s degree or higher is growing about three times as fast as the number of non-Latinos with a bachelor’s or higher degree... Read Full Report

Biden to shift US-Latin America policy

By TRACY WILKINSONMOLLY O’TOOLEL.A. TIMES – OCT. 7, 2020

WASHINGTON — A Biden White House is likely to dramatically shift U.S. policy in Central and Latin America away from President Trump’s laser focus on stopping immigration and return to the more traditional diplomatic tools of building democratic governments, fighting corruption and respecting human rights — changes that won’t be welcomed by some of the region’s leaders.

In contrast to Trump, Biden says that the best way to reduce illegal immigration to the U.S. is to fight the root causes, such as violence and poverty in countries to the south — problems that have only deepened because climate change is destroying crops and the coronavirus crisis is depleting economies... Read Full Article

It would seem that the fevered Earth in her delirium has generated antibodies in the form of a crowned virus to cure herself of the cancer that humankind has become upon her body. Forest fires rage on the Amazon, in Australia, in Siberia, in California, everywhere. More frequent and ever more disastrous hurricanes and floods wreak death in all the continents. The poles warm and glaciers melt. The oceans rise. Each day more and more of our relations the other animals, the plants become extinct. Humankind’s hubris has created the tragedy of the Anthropocene.... Read Full Article

12 de octubre: China pudo haber “descubierto” América antes que Colón

No alt text provided for this image
